Valheim is an interesting game and one with very contrasting themes. On one hand, the premise of the game is to impress Odin so that you can be one of the best warriors in Valhalla in order to reach the destiny that all Vikings strive for. With that being the premise, there are still aspects that make the game is as realistic such as finding good enough weapons to cover you in battle.
Some weapons in-game are not even worth having due to their poor functionality. Here is a list of the top 5 weapons that you can acquire in Valheim. We’ll go over what the weapons are, how to get them, and how to use them most effectively.
Before we get into the best weapons, here is an obligatory spoiler warning as a lot of these weapons are locked behind bosses, and learning how to get them may ruin your experience if you’ve never touched the game.

Weapon Type and Variety
Valheim may start off slow in terms of weapons type and variety but it starts to pick up speed as soon as you’ve cleared the second boss. After the defeat of the second boss, your weapon arsenal opens up tremendously, which can even confuse the most advanced of gamers.
With that being the case, here are 5 of the best weapons the game has to offer, with each belonging to different categories.
The Stagbreaker (the best early game weapon)
How to craft the Stagbreaker
To craft this weapon all you need is a level 2 workbench which just requires wood to make. The best thing about this weapon is the fact that you can get it without actually having to take down a single boss.
Here is the list of materials that you are going to need if you want to make this weapon.
- 20 Core Wood
- 2 Leather Scraps
- 5 Deer Trophies
Where can you find these resources:
The core wood can be found in the Black Forest biome. Once you reach the biome you can start cutting down Pine trees which are loaded with core wood and with just a couple of trees you should have enough wood for the weapon.
The leather scraps can be found by hunting either boar or deer as they have a chance to drop the stuff and it shouldn’t be a rare find.
Deer trophies can only be acquired after hunting deer and they drop at a much lower rate than meat and leather. Deer trophies are also useful for other projects so you will have to build up a surplus if you plan to make this weapon.

You should also keep an eye out for wolves when mining because they are brutal, unrelenting, and will kill you without hesitation.
