Claim your Heroes
As a beginner, when you accept your very first mission, you will be welcomed to three heroes. They will be the founding party.
Build the Players
When starting the game, you will be asked to select a character. Wildermyth allows you to get your creative juices flowing. You get to design your character any way you fancy. Apart from that, you get to personalize their appearance, their life stories and also assign them qualities. The character will behave in agreement with their respective traits.
Keep your Characters young
When designing your characters, keep a few things in your mind. All good things come to an end. Similarly, all the good guys have retiring ages. Creating a senior citizen as a hero comes with a lot of challenges. Handling the retirement of your character is a very challenging thing. If they retire during a mission, you lose your progress! Not only that, but you may also suffer from the loss of other heroes associated with the main one. Hence, recruiting young blood is advisable.
Classification
Three classes are available in Wildermyth: Hunter, Mystic, and Warrior. Mystics have magical specialties; Hunters are specialized in hunting and archery. Warriors can withstand serious injuries and are your frontline soldiers.
Combating the Villains
Fighting with the bad guys can be puzzling at the start. In the world, everything around you is perishable. Every hero has a special move that charges you action points. So you have to use them wisely and form a master plan to do so.
Use your Surroundings
The environment of the game is designed to give shelter to the players while fighting. But at the same time, the opponents can also use it for the same purpose. Know your way around and find suitable spots for hiding.
Choose Smartly
When your hero levels up, they get their very first ability. This decision should be given a good amount of thought. It is the foremost capability of the character, for you can level it up numerous times. By doing that, you can thrust your hero in precise directions. You gain absolute liberty to make a choice and go with something simple and easy or strategic.
What is a Stunt?
When your character gets a chance to hit a stunt, it can cause severe scarring to the opponent. Mostly it lowers their honor. It gives added useful effect to you too! Upgrading your weapons increases the chance for a stunt. Sometimes, arming your character with a specific weapon does the same too. Do not waste the chance, for it is not very common.
Determining the Range
Certain characters can have a specified range in Wildermyth. Maintain a guarded distance from the rivals and use your ranged heroes to do so. This way, you can terminate the maximum number of attackers, and you will not lose your health either. Also, make sure that you do not step inside the range of your opponent. Do that, and you just invited them to kill you. Stay clear from it and fight from your range.
Use Tactics
A very easy way to pull a sneaky on the attackers is by eliminating the feeble opponents first. By doing so, the number of villains that could attack you will lessen, and you will be able to focus on the stronger ones better.
Map of the Game
After you are introduced to the characters and you are done naming them, you will be taken to the map. Your selected party can survey from a huge variety of tiles. The corner on the left top of the screen is committed to the pursuits you have to accomplish. The top center is reserved for the time and date in the game.
Time is Money
Roaming here and there in the game consumes a lot of time, and it flies in Wildermyth. Keep an eye on the watch and make sure that you do not delay your quests. Losing track of time can cause you trouble.
Mountains and Rivers
While exploring the map of Wildermyth, you may come across different mountains and rivers. Going over them is not a piece of cake. For moving across a water body, you will have to create a bridge. And mountains require to dig through. Both these tasks eat up time, so it is advised to just go about the block.
Know your Way
Occasionally it may happen that you do not spot the enemy. But this does not mean that they are not around. Attackers can be hiding in various hideouts on the tile. When exploring one, get to know the hiding places and remember them.
Since undercover enemies are not visible, it is recommended to stay clear of undetermined areas. Parts of the map that you do not know off should not be explored while quests. For the enemy can ambush you, and it is possible that you may not be able to drawback. The same advice can be applied when you have to unlock gates. Inspect them before time so that you know your way around.
Legacy Points
Legacy points persevere during quests. When you obtain them in a challenge, you can spend them on many things. Use your points for upgrading and personalizing your heroes. Building up stuff also requires these points. Finishing certain tasks is also a way to gain them.
Kill the Monsters
When you clear up a certain space from all the monsters residing there, it will secure your legacy points. However, you can only earn them once in a single area. Yet again, if the enemies come back and you eradicate them once again, you will not get Legacy points.
Spending your Points
Since these points are not easily obtained, use them sensibly. There are a lot of things that you can buy with points. Enrolment of a new hero can value at three legacy points. Hiring a special one can cost 4 points. Calling off an invasion takes up five legacy points, and abandoning a calamity eats up 1 of them.
Relationships
Wildermyth is a game that tests your decision-making powers. Anything you do, any choice you make will affect your gameplay moving forward. All the incidents that will take place in the future will affect your choices. When designing characters and creating parties, you are also responsible for the relationships they hold in between them.
Be the Matchmaker
This is a great responsibility on your shoulders. You can let two characters be companions, contestants, or even lovers! But always remember that every single step you take will be molding the future happenings for you.
Understanding the Players
When both of your characters oppose each other, it can make either one of them heftier than the other. Two lovers can even have kids! And companions can have a strong bond and help each other.
Nurture upcoming Talent
Since all the characters age in the game, it is almost certain that a lot of them will be retiring now and then. Often, it happens that when contestants retire, their kids join to fill up their place. When you level up in the game, the monsters also grow stronger. Most probably, the kids would not be able to fight them.
Villagers to the Rescue
Recruiting the people in the villages is a way better option than the children. You will need legacy points to do so, but it will be worth it. They are way more experienced and upgraded and will help throughout the quests.
Eyes all Over
Combating with a group of mighty monsters is an effort-taking task and can get you overburdened. Watching you under pressure, the attackers can take benefit and overpower you. This will make you lose a battle you almost won in the game of Wildermyth.
Observers of the Party
To keep yourself on the safe side and making sure that you do not fail any fight, it is very important to have watchers. The ambush of archer’s and the sentinel of the warriors are required at such a time. Upgrade them to the level where they cease the approaching enemy. Mystics of the party can conjoin with different things to let you overthrow the monsters.
How to Confuse Them
Control the movement of your enemies. Keep them wrapped around your fingers. Know their plans. Crack their schemes. Play their own game with them. This requires a little effort but no pain, no gain. Once you grasp the concept and use their own spells against them, Wildermyth combats will be a piece of cake for you!
Themed Occasions
Sometimes while exploring the area, unplanned events might activate themselves. This can happen when you set foot in a combat zone or depart from one. Or if you are moving around with a celebrity. Leaders are an example of celebrities.
Theme Clashes
A single player can have numerous themes. The only condition is that none of the themes should have a conflict with one another. For example, you cannot get a wolf tattoo if your character already has a bear face.
Enemies to Face
Your rivals are of 5 various kinds. Know them, their abilities, their schemes, their powers, and overtake them using your skills. Deepists, Morthagi, Thrixls, Drauven, and Gorgons are the current enemies you have to face.
Deepists
They are found in deep caverns. Sighting them way overground always means problems are approaching. Deepists are pathetic at being funny. If you are dressed in headgear that has a horn, they might attack you.
Morthagi
Built out of skeletons and everything dead, these can be found in their specific quest only.
Drauven
Drauvens have an identity crisis, for they are dragons that are also not dragons. The worst neighbors award was probably presented to them. Also, a caste system is popular among them.
Gorgons
Stay clear because gorgons are huge. You can say they might be cousins with the octopus because of their tentacles. Corrupt blood. They instigate diseases and silence. Thankfully, they are only present in a certain campaign.
Thrixls
Last of them, but without a doubt, not the least. Thrixls can be sophisticated and graceful. A cross between insects and reptiles, these creatures are mystical for sure!
